Some location painting and some studio work done between getting ready for the Masterworks show
Some location painting and some studio work done between getting ready for the Masterworks show
A three person show with Molly Godet, Charles Knights and myself
There has been some confusion about the opening day, it will be this Friday. Unfortunately the printed invitation went out with an opening date which conflicted with the day of the Ag Show so the opening was changed to May.
You can see some of our work on the Water Ways page.
I gave a workshop in mid month, a two day workshop with lots of painting. Arrive at a location, set up do a painting and after half an hour or so pack up then move onto the next location. The idea being to get people used to making a statement on the paper about what was in front of them, and to look for and define large shapes, no time to try and do finished paintings. It went well especially with the help of Heidi the Artscentre curator and workshop organiser chivvying everyone back onto the bus.
The rest of the month was spent getting work ready for my upcoming show with Molly Godet and Charles Knights at the Masterworks gallery on May 2nd. Two marvellous painters. Should be a great show.

I came home to Bermuda from San Francisco, after spending Christmas with my daughter and her husband and promptly succumbed to a dreadful cold, I stayed under the weather for all of January, no energy and very little painting got done.
I am starting to get some work done again.
Going to try and do more location work in the next few weeks the weather seems to be cooperating.
I have been painting the winter solstice sunrise for a number of years, this year I was in San Francisco, and my daughter Candace was kind enough to get up at 5 am and drive me and Marlene across the city to the Marin Headlands so that I could paint the the sun coming up behind the Golden Gate Bridge, it was all quite wonderful. The sun came up exactly in line with the bridge support tower.
A little cold and but manageable and although it was hard working with washes that didn’t want to dry a little patience got it done in the end.
I have been back in the studio, and back to watercolour now that the small shows are all over, working on quarter sheet. Maybe some half sheets and even full sheets next week, well see. Very quiet in the studio now the cruise ships are gone, had a lot of visitors from Canada recently.
Small watercolours for the Christmas small show at the Windjammer II gallery on December 4th
The acrylics for the Artcentre were fun and I think successful but now it is back to painting bigger watercolours and doing much more work on location. April and the group show with Molly Godet and Charles Knights at the Masterworks gallery will soon be here.
I have been preparing for the Christmas time shows of small works held every year around this time by our local galleries.
These are acrylic on paper which I have done for the Dockyard Arts Centre.
The Dockyard show opens on Sunday the 24th
Made a change from watercolour, and I had a good time doing them once I had finished a few to get the feel of working in an opaque medium again.
They also reflect the change in weather and light that happens around this time.
